5 Tips For Dry Skin

We've all been told we have a 'type' of skin, namely, one of oily, sensitive, dry, normal or combination. Frankly, the truth is that we all have a little of each of the above, after all, what is 'normal' skin? Even those of us who would be classed as having oily skin will find we develop the odd patch of dry skin from time to time. That patch of dry skin will typically feel tight, red, flaky, itchy and a constant discomfort. Evelina stocks a range of great skincare products for rejuvenating your skin and giving it a new lease of fresh life but don't leave soothing your dry skin down entirely to those products alone. At Evelina we believe in holistic care. That means complimenting premium quality skincare products with a great routine and essential tips. Read on below for some key ideas and products for rejuvenating dry skin and keeping it at bay.

Consume plenty of Vitamin C

Vitamin C is essential for your body's daily functioning from protecting cells to helping your wounds to heal. Vitamin C also helps to facilitate the production of collagen which is the most important protein in helping the suppleness and integrity of your skin's tissue. Start your day with a fresh glass of orange juice and then make sure you consume lots of fruits and vegetables such as red and green peppers, strawberries, blackcurrants and broccoli, all of which are rich in vitamin C.

Avoid lots of direct sunlight

Ever stayed out in the sun for too long, found you've been sun-burned and had your skin start peeling? Well, it just goes to show how much damage the sun can really do. Protecting your skin from the sun's rays will go far to help prevent your skin from ageing and drying as well as from wrinkles, sagging and potentially skin cancer. You won't be able to completely avoid the sun but you can minimize exposure which will help keep your skin from drying out, becoming red and flaky.

Don't over exfoliate

Exfoliating your skin should be a part of everyone's skincare routine. It helps remove dead and patchy skin but over-exfoliating can end up doing more harm than good. We recommend you start by choosing a great exfoliating product such as the INNOVIS Deep Purifying Cleanser, which naturally exfoliates and detoxifies whilst feeding much needed vitamins C and E into those dry areas of your skin. Exfoliate once or twice a week and as you do make sure you massage gently, don't scrub too hard as the temptation is to rub hard with your hand as if you're literally scrubbing dead cells away but let your exfoliator do the work for you, a high quality exfoliator won't need to be rubbed in deeply as it will penetrate and lift those skin cells gently for you.

    Moisturize and cleanse gently

Cleansing and moisturizing should be a part of your routine for taking care of dry skin. Evelina offers a range of excellent cleansers and moisturizers . We'd recommend the Olive Oil Facial Cleanser, a gentle and all natural cleanser that hydrates and soothes dry skin areas and is suitable for all skin types. Compliment this with a moisturiser such as the INNOVIS Botanical Bio-Peptide which works to promote cell regeneration in dry and damaged skin.

    Wash with lukewarm water.

I'm sure none of us use scolding water to wash our skin but we often have the hot water running at a temperature that might feel comfortable yet can still be hotter than what is optimal for our skin. Hot water strips the natural oils from your skin leading to increased dryness in your skin. By using lukewarm water you help keep the natural oils locked into dry skin, preventing it from becoming even more dry whilst allowing your cleanser, moisturizer and other skin care products to work most effectively.
